Montreal Lake sex assault case proceeding to trial

A man facing charges of sexual assault, confinement and aggravated assault, is maintaining his innocence.

Isiah Roberts, 22, will be tried in December at Montreal Lake Cree Nation. Not guilty pleas were entered on Tuesday at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

The incident happened in the northern community on May 29.

In the early morning hours, police received a report that a woman in a home was assaulted. The attack lasted for several hours and the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Roberts was arrested three days later and made his first court appearance on June 2.

When police first attempted to arrest Roberts, they allege he fled into a nearby wooded area in order to avoid capture.

This resulted in a charge of obstruction.
