AIR CADET LEARNS ABOUT SEAMANSHIP

Corporal Matthew Kartowikromo of 624 Tisdale, Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, in Tisdale, Sask, heaving a line, at Camp Saskadet, near Kelvington, Sask., on August 6, 2023.

Kartowikromo joined other cadets from rural Saskatchewan for a 5-Day Cadet Activity Program. During this experience, cadets participated in fun, safe, challenging,

and well-organized activities in their local area such as hiking, marksmanship and seamanship.

“I really like how hands-on all the activities were, it made learning fun and interesting,” said Kartowikromo.

Kartowikromo joined cadets last year because he’s always been interested in a career in the Canadian Forces. During the past year, Kartowikromo participated in many different activities such as marksmanship, field training exercises, and aviation activities.

“Cadets is a great learning opportunity and you become part of a team, which is really nice,” said Kartowikromo.

Summer training is just some of the activities available to youth at local, regional and national levels in the Canadian Cadet Program year-round. The Canadian Cadet Program is open to all youth between the ages of 12-18 years old and develops confident, self-sufficient leaders who form lasting friendships and are engaged in their communities. Air Cadets also learn about aviation technologies, air crew survival, and how to fly.

Adults are also needed to help train, administer and supervise the local youth involved in the Canadian Cadet Program. Becoming part of the Canadian Cadet Program is easier than you may think, it’s a lot of fun, and the skills you learn are likely transferable to your regular employment. No previous military or cadet experience is needed.
