St. Mary and Carlton ready to rumble in annual high school football clash

Sep 22, 2023 | 6:00 AM

Prince Albert High School football bragging rights are on the line Friday night with another instalment of the Canadian Tire Classic.

The Carlton Crusaders will take on the St. Mary Marauders at 5:30 p.m. at Max Clunie Field.

Carlton is coming off a 34-3 win over Martensville, while St. Mary has yet to play a game this season.

This will be the 11th edition of the annual game between the two P.A. high schools.

Last year, Carlton claimed the championship with a 51-14 victory in the Classic while the Marauders won the 2021 event 35-14.

As the Canadian Tire Classic is happening at the same time as the Prince Albert Raiders season opener, the City of Prince is closing Terry Simpson Lane’s entrance at 28 Street East Friday to ensure safety as both events go on.

“Friday night promises to be bustling with the Raiders’ season opener and the clash between St. Mary’s and Carlton High School. In the interest of safety for pedestrians and emergency vehicles, we will be temporarily closing Terry Simpson lane,” said Tim Yeaman, Parks and Open Space Manager for the City of Prince Albert.
