Incidents shut down Highway 2 near La Ronge in recent days

Highway 2 south of Air Ronge was closed and reopened to traffic after two separate incidents in recent days.

According to La Ronge RCMP, at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers were called to assist with an overturned semi and trailer that was about 60 kilometres south of La Ronge on Highway 2.

The semi and trailer had overturned and were laid across both lanes of travel. No other persons or vehicles were involved in the incident beyond the semi, trailer and driver.

Police report no major injury to the driver, but noted La Ronge EMS attended as a precaution. With the assistance of the Ministry of Highways, the roadway was cleared of the vehicles and debris and re-opened around 8:00 a.m. for uninterrupted travel in both directions.

A tow company from Saskatoon is to attend the scene and remove the overturned semi and trailer unit from the ditch. RCMP don’t believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the incident.

The second incident occurred on Monday at about 3:15 p.m. when officers were called to assist La Ronge EMS with a motor vehicle collision about 30 kilometres south from La Ronge, also on Highway 2.

A transport company, utilizing pilot vehicles, was moving a Ready to Move (RTM) home northbound along the highway when a southbound passenger vehicle struck the RTM.

The highway was temporarily closed to allow for the safety of those involved and attending personnel. The driver of the southbound vehicle sustained some injuries and was transported by La Ronge EMS to the La Ronge Health Centre.

RCMP said the investigation into the cause of the collisions is under investigation.
