Cenovus Energy is providing North West College with funds to help the school enhance its mental health services.

Over the next three years, the post-secondary school – which has campuses in North Battleford and Meadow Lake – will receive $45,000 so they can better provide support around substance abuse and harm reduction, managing stress, personal challenges, and more.

The funding will be split into three $15,000 installments.

North West College is also getting $75,000 from Cenovus Energy which will be used to set up an expanded tutoring program. This will provide students with free access to academic support tailored to their needs.

This funding will also be split up with the school getting $25,000 a year for three years.

“This partnership with Cenovus Energy is a game-changer for North West College and our students. We are excited to leverage this funding to provide invaluable support to our students, helping them achieve their academic and career goals,” said Dr. Eli Ahlquist, President and CEO of North West College.

In total, the school is receiving $120,000. Cenovus explained it was an easy decision to support them.

“We believe that investing in education and the well-being of our communities is an essential part of building a brighter future. We look forward to witnessing the positive impact of this collaboration,” said Kent Miller, Director of Cenovus’ Lloydminster Upgrader Complex.

Meanwhile, students at North West College’s campuses may notice different workshops and seminars being held.

The school is holding them to support students with resume building, interview skills, and job search strategies to help them enter their field of choice.
