New long-term care facility officially in the works for Humboldt

Donna Muench had an important announcement for the sold-out crowd at the Cottage Boutique fashion show on Sunday at the Humboldt Legion.

The executive director of the St. Mary’s Villa Foundation announced that a new long-term care facility is coming to Humboldt, as per a conversation with the provincial government.

The brand new building could potentially be announced with the province’s spring budget but the St. Mary’s Villa board has been told to start actively fundraising for their portion of the new equipment and furniture budget.

This will be in the millions of dollars even with the municipal and provincial governments contributing the majority of the potential $80-$100 million price tag.

The goal is a new facility with between 100-120 beds.

Meanwhile, this was the 10th Cottage Boutique fashion show where funds have gone to the St. Mary’s Villa.

Attendees got a glimpse of 123 outfits currently available for their fall wardrobe.

Muench said the fashion show raised nearly $9,000 for the new building fund, which is already at $560,000 following five years of passive fundraising efforts, said Muench.

Efforts started in 2018 when the foundation had its first conversation with the provincial government and was told that a building was in the works with an uncertain timeline.
