Living Sky School Division advises parents of hold and secure in effect

Oct 25, 2023 | 11:10 AM

Additional Update – 12:40 p.m.

Living Sky School Division advised schools in the Battlefords and Cut Knife are in hold and secure at this time.

Update: The Living Sky School Division says the division has been in contact with the RCMP who are continuing to investigate the situation.

Out of an abundance of caution, they will keep the hold and secure in place until the end of the day.

If parents need to pick up a student or go to the school, the exterior doors will be locked, so they may need to contact the school to say they are there. The division added unless otherwise notified, schools will still follow the usual end-of-day routines.

Meanwhile, the Light of Christ School Division advised its schools are also under a hold and secure as well.

Living Sky School Division said it was made aware of a threat made against the “safety of its school community” on Wednesday morning.

In a letter to parents, the division said that as a precautionary measure, they’re initiating a hold and secure at all schools in the Battlefords.

Living Sky initially said a hold and secure was in place at North Battleford Comprehensive High School.

Living Sky’s PR and Advancement Specialist Kelsie Valliere added in another statement to parents that as a precaution the hold and secure would be placed at all schools.

“This means all exterior doors to the school have been locked, and students will be kept inside as much as possible,” she said. “We are working with the RCMP and will send further updates as we are able. Safety of students is always our top priority. Therefore, we are being extra cautious at this time.”

battlefordsNOW has reached out to RCMP and the Living Sky Division for more details and is awaiting reply.

More to come.
