Hold and secure ended at Battlefords and Cut Knife schools

A hold and secure order has been lifted for schools in the Battlefords and Cut Knife.

Living Sky School Division (LSSD) and Light of Christ School Division both had this measure in place in schools on Wednesday in response to a threat.

LSSD said in a notice to parents Thursday that after the division had a consultation with the RCMP, it was determined that schools would resume as normal today.

“We thank you for your patience and cooperation yesterday. We treat all threats with the utmost seriousness and appreciate students, families and agencies working with us through safety protocols,” the division said.

LSSD issued a hold and secure Wednesday morning when it was made aware of a threat against the “safety of its school community.”

In a letter to parents, the division said that it was taking a precautionary measure.

In accordance with a hold and secure, all exterior doors to the schools were locked, and students were kept inside as much as possible.

The division said out of “an abundance of caution,” they would keep the hold and secure in place until the end of the school day Wednesday.

LSSD said the division had been in contact with the RCMP who investigated the situation.
