The Nipawin Hawks were doubled 6-3 by Humboldt Friday night as the teams continue to win on the road when the rivals meet this Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season.

Earlier in October the Hawks and Broncos split a weekend home-and-home that also started with a Broncos’ victory at the Centennial Arena, although for first meeting was closer at 3-2.

In the third meeting of the year the Hawks fell behind 2-0 and 3-1, before closing the game to 3-2, but Humboldt scored three goals in the third to put the game out of reach. Hawks Assistant Coach Levi Stuart said Humboldt’s opportunities all came from prime scoring areas and they didn’t miss.

“I think every single one of their goals was scored from inside what we would consider ‘our house’ and we preach about protecting the house and tonight we didn’t do a good enough job,” he said after the game.

After the Broncos made the game 2-0 in the second, Finley Radloff cut the lead to 2-1 with his fourth goal od the year and third in Nipawin’s last three games. The Broncos replied shortly after restoring their two goal cushion going to the third period. Chase Visser scored his fourth early in the final period again drawing Nipawin within a goal, but again the Broncos responded, taking a 4-2 lead and eventually expanding that to 6-2 before Alex Bernauer capped the scoring with his second. Stuart said this season one of the Hawks’ Achilles Heels has been keeping teams at bay after a goal.

“We have had it happen too many times this year,” he added. “We score a goal and our follow up shift is no where near good enough whether it’s getting scored on or simply giving the momentum back. It’s something we need to make a note of.”

Tyson Endall got his second straight start for an ill Damon Cunningham, Endall made 28 saves in the loss. Aiden Fischer won the game for Humboldt with 33 saves.

The teams will close their season series Saturday back in Humboldt where the Hawks won on Oct. 14 in overtime. Stuart said the club needs a rebound on the road.

“We have to comeback with a good bounceback here. We have to find a way to be prepared, wash this one away, and go in there tomorrow and do our thing, and get back to playing Hawks hockey,” Stuart concluded.

Faceoff is 7 p.m. at the Elgar Petersen Arena, the pregame show of Duplex Furniture and Appliances Hawks Hockey on CJVR begins at 6:45 p.m.
