A teen killer initially charged with first degree murder in the death of Air Ronge resident Jennifer Hendry pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of second-degree murder in a La Ronge courtroom on Tuesday.

That plea comes after a trial was expected to begin on Monday. The teen, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, told Judge Lloyd Stang he understood the guilty plea would relinquish his right to a trial and that he understood the consequences of entering such a plea.

A second charge of robbery was stayed.

A sentencing hearing for the teen is not expected to occur until at least June 2024. Leading up to that, Judge Stang ordered several reports to be written before he sentences the teen.
