Tri-community women recognized at awards gala

The achievements of 23 local residents were front and center at the In Celebration of Women Awards Gala held Nov. 3 at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre.

“It’s to highlight and empower the women and youth that go above and beyond and contribute to the community in different disciplines and fields,” said Piwapan Women’s Centre executive director Karen Sanderson.

“I think it recognizes the behind the scenes, the kind of extra work that the women and youth do in our community to make it safer, better and to bring people together.”

The event included approximately 150 people, who were treated to supper and entertainment by comedian Dakota Ray Hebert. The 2023 In Celebration of Women Gala was the 11^th annual event hosted by Piwapan.

Those recognized were (education) Jodie Sylvester; (business) Tia Watt, Tania Colbert and Charmaine Charles; (leadership) Donna Banach, Wendy Ahenahew, Colleen Sanderson, Tina Johnson, Kyra Luciuk, Kayla Natomagan, Kristy McDougall, Kathleen Sanderson and Kathleen Desautels.
