Melfort Rotary Carol Festival continuing to support Salvation Army

The Melfort Rotary Club Carol Festival is back for its second year in a row and its 73rd time overall.

This Sunday at the Melfort United Church, a total of 16 groups will belt their favourite Christmas carols to kick off the season of giving within the community.

“It’s always a lot of fun, I feel we’re kind of the inaugural activity to start things off in the community at the beginning of December and it’s great to see the local talent. I think Melfort has a lot of really good local talent and our carol festival does give them an opportunity to showcase their talent at such a wonderful time of year,” said Rotary member, Mona Graham.

Not only are the carols nice to hear, but they support a great local cause during the holiday season.

While the event is free to attend, donations are encouraged as all proceeds will go towards the Salvation Army’s Christmas Hamper Campaign.

“The local Salvation Army does such good work not only in our community, but in Tisdale too, so they fulfill a great need at Christmas. Everybody knows it’s a wonderful time of year but there are a lot of people who also are not able to celebrate in quite the same way, so they do good work that way by providing them food, gifts, and more,” Graham added.

At the Rotary Club, their motto is service above self which they see the Salvation Army shares making their partnership, in their opinion, the perfect match.

“We try to find those needs in the community and the Salvation Army is our avenue to reach out and help those families. Anytime you can help people, it always makes you feel good and with the carol festival, not only are we helping, but it offers the community a time to get together and celebrate the beginning of the holiday season,” Graham told northeastNOW.

As always, the festival is happening on the first weekend of December, this Sunday, and runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. with carol singing set to begin 15 minutes prior at 1:45 p.m.
