Nipawin now home to McDonald’s franchise

The Golden Arches are now in Nipawin.

Iconic fast-food chain McDonald’s has officially opened in the community holding its grand opening Friday, Dec. 15.

Director Raj Bains told northeastNOW that Nipawin held a great deal of appeal to the franchise as it is a hub community for many coming from the northeast and surrounding areas.

Bains said having a restaurant in Nipawin also fits with existing franchise locations in the general region.

“This is a location right between (Prince Albert and Melfort) as well,” Bains explained. He added that distance between existing McDonald’s led them to believe that Nipawin was a perfect fit.

He added the excitement of having the chain in Nipawin was apparent at Friday’s grand opening.

“We had long lineups and you can tell they were excited that McDonald’s is a part of Nipawin now,” Bains said.

Like many other restaurants and businesses in the region, McDonald’s in Nipawin is looking for employees. Optimally, the Nipawin location would be open 24 hours a day, but Bains said they’re not at the staffing levels to do so right now. Their hours are currently 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Anyone interested in applying to become part of the McDonald’s team in Nipawin can drop off their resume on-site, or through the McDonald’s website.

Bains said they are looking for more locals to be able to open for full operating hours, and added employees learn more than just the ins-and-outs of working at the restaurant.

“We also teach them some life skills too,” Bains explained. “They can go from being just a part-time, to a crew trainer, to a weekend swing manager, and learn about operations which would help them in their development.”

He also asked for patience as the current employees learn and train, as about 80 to 90 per cent of the team is new to working at the McDonald’s franchise.
