Garth Kalin goes live as host of CKBI Morning Show

If you tuned in to 900 CKBI Thursday morning you likely heard a new but familiar face on the airwaves.

Radio veteran Garth Kalin stepped up to the mic for the first time on the country station as the new Morning Show host for CKBI.

Speaking to paNOW after his first day on-air, Kalin reminisced about his career so far, which has spanned more than 40 years.

“I’ve worked in every format that there is in radio from Oldies to Rock…and I’ve done every shift that you can imagine from the all night, 2:00 in the morning till 6:00 AM and now it’s just the 6:00 AM till 10:00 AM,” he said.

Over his years in the industry, Kalin has worked behind the mic but also behind the scenes as Program Director, Operations Manager, and Music Director.

Despite the managerial experience he’s accumulated, Kalin’s passion has always been on-air and said being on CKBI allows him to continue that passion.

“It’s just having a lot of fun again on the air, I missed that,” he said. “In my managerial roles I didn’t have a chance to be back on the air and I missed it. Every time I turn on the radio and hear somebody else doing something, it’s like ‘oh man, I wish I could do that, or I could do that better.’ Well, this gives me the chance to get back on and have a little fun.”
