Sentencing delayed again for Prince Albert child luring case

Due to a last minute breakdown in the agreed statement of facts, a man who has previously entered guilty pleas to a number of offences including child luring and sexual assault, is now seeking a new lawyer.

Brady Robin was scheduled to be sentenced on Monday, but after informing the judge about the disagreement on facts, his lawyer Chris Koban requested and was granted permission to withdraw.

“This is unfortunate but the facts couldn’t be agreed upon,” Koban said.

Koban also cited “ethical reasons” for his request but did not elaborate.

Robin, 22, appeared in person when his case was discussed and last August entered a number of guilty pleas including child luring by way of telecommunications, invitation to sexual touching, sexual assault, and possession of child pornography.

Robin was also charged with breaching a probation order that included a condition not to have contact with persons under the age of 16.

The offences occurred between Jan. 5, 2020 and June 24, 2022 and there was reference to two teenage victims. Any further information identifying the victims cannot be published.

Robin was arrested on June 24, 2022 and charged after police received reports of a teen girl and a man having sexual contact online through social media.

Sentencing had initially been scheduled to take place last November but was adjourned because Robin’s lawyer was very sick.

The case has now been adjourned to Feb 1 and Robin has indicated plans to obtain private counsel.

Due to the fact guilty pleas have already been entered, a Gardiner hearing, which is sort of like a trial after the pleas, will be needed. During the hearing, evidence gets presented to the judge that’s in dispute by either the Crown or the accused.

Both the victim and her father were in court on Monday and showed some visible signs of frustration. Robin’s parents also attended and appeared equally upset.
