Jan 18, 2024 | 12:12 PM

The Prince Albert Mintos chalked up another in the win column, downing the Saskatoon Contacts 4-2 at the Art Hauser Centre.

The win is the second in as many games for Prince Albert after they took down the Battlefords Stars in a neutral site contest at Flying Dust First Nation on Saturday, also winning 4-2.

Abinet Klassen earned the home star for the Mintos following his one-goal, one-assist performance. Owen Nelson also finished the game with a goal and an assist. At the same time, Kale Margolis and Taite Donkin scored the other markers for P.A. Captain Van Taylor led the assist department with two and Owen Dyck, Carter Cole, and Kelan Simmonds had one helper each.

Tyler Phipps and Jace Rask potted the goals for the Contacts while Brodie Scopick, Sean Shiels, and Rylan Hue were the assist-getters.

Brady Holtvogt was guarding the goal for the Mintos and needed 15 saves to collect the win and help Prince Albert improve to 17-9-4 on the campaign.

Logan Edmonstone was in net for Saskatoon and made 34 saves as the Contacts fell to 11-18-3 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

The Mintos got on the boards towards the middle of the opening frame with Klassen breaking the goose egg six minutes in. Then 10 seconds later, Nelson turned the lamp on with his team-leading 20th goal this season.

Saskatoon would get one back a short time later though with Phipps finding the back of the net to make it 2-1 after one.

The Green and Gold restored their two-goal lead late in the second with Donkin cashing in on the man advantage. The tally was the only one in the period as the Mintos led 3-1.

Rask’s tenth of the season pulled the Contacts to within one with his mid-period marker before P.A.’s Margolis put the final nail in the coffin with an empty netter just 10 seconds before the final buzzer, giving the Mintos a 4-2 victory.

Prince Albert is back in action on Friday night when they host the league-best Saskatoon Blazers for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop at the Art Hauser Centre.
