Jan 18, 2024 | 5:36 PM

Prince Albert police are charging a 14-year-old teen who injured themselves with a sawed-off shotgun.

Early Thursday morning, officers were called to a home on 12th Street NW after getting a complaint of a firearm being discharged.

After arriving, they learned that a youth had arrived at the residence with a firearm the night before. While trying to load it, the firearm discharged and ended up injuring the teen.

The youth fled the home before police arrived, getting picked up by a vehicle and brought to the Victoria Hospital for treatment.

After being discharged, they were arrested by police and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, and reckless discharge of a firearm.

They’ve since been released and are scheduled to appear in a P.A. provincial courtroom on Jan. 26, 2024.

Meanwhile, officers have since found the firearm on the roof of a structure on 5th Avenue NW.
