The Prince Albert Mintos made out with two points during their weekend doubleheader.

The Mintos began the busy slate on Friday night, hosting the league-best Saskatoon Blazers in what was a goaltender dual.

Saskatoon edged Prince Albert 1-0 in the close contest as Josh Henry was in goal for the Mintos, making 20 saves while Blazers netminder Grayson Malinoski stopped everything that was thrown at him. Shaan Basran had the lone marker in the contest.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE (Friday)

Saturday’s contest was a much different story as the Mintos beat down the Battefords Stars, 8-1, in Kinistino as part of Hockey Day in Saskatchewan festivities.

Will Whitter got P.A. on the board early to open the game, scoring just 44 seconds in. The marker opened the floodgates as Owen Dyck and Kelan Simmonds scored back-to-back quick markers as the Mintos led 3-0 just over ten minutes in.

The Stars would get one back before the end of the period as Devante Pratt broke the goose egg for the Battlefords.

The goal didn’t slow down the Green and Gold though as Dyck potted his second of the night along with Carter Bergen and Taite Donkin who too lit the lamp in the period, making it 6-1 Mintos entering the third.

Abinet Klassen and Owen Nelson tacked on two more in the third for Prince Albert, ending the game with an 8-1 score.

Klassen, Van Taylor, and Lincoln Rogers finished with two assists while Whitter, Simmonds, Bergen, Kale Margolis, Konnor Watson, Carter Cole, and Raydr Wallington each had one.

Brady Holtvogt got the nod in Saturday’s game, needing 17 saves to collect the win and help P.A. improve to 18-10-4 on the campaign.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE (Saturday)

The Mintos now prepare to defend the Art Hauser Centre next weekend as they are set to host the Estevan Great North Bears for a pair of games next weekend.
