Jan 26, 2024 | 2:31 PM

Seven P.A. sports figures will have their legacy cemented forever in the Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame later this year.

During a press conference at the Hall of Fame in the Art Hauser Centre on Friday morning, the newest inductees were introduced which included three builders, one athlete, one athlete and builder, one for meritorious service, and one team.

The Class of 2024 inductees are builders Melodie Boulet, Jennifer Ferguson, and Brad and Tyson Fetch, athlete Ashley Viklund, athlete and builder Francois Fournier, Al Dyer for meritorious service, and the 1995 Prince Albert Toppers volleyball team.

P.A. Sports Hall of Fame Vice President and 2016 inductee Bruce Vance shared his thoughts on the Class of 2024, calling them a great group of characters.

“Every year, we find some incredible people that aren’t in the Sports Hall of Fame from the previous 31 classes,” he said. “This year, we have a high-quality group.”

Additionally, the 2023 Esso Cup Committee is being recognized as the Organization of the Year. Vance was a member of the committee and said a few words regarding the wild journey in bringing the tournament to Hockeytown North.

“They were five years in the [making] and I don’t know of any host committee that has been together that long, and to be able to pull off a great event was really a feather in the cap,” he said.

To make room for the Class of 2024 in the Hall, the organization will be taking down the Class of 2009’s portraits and will return them to the inductees, their families, or the respective organization. That Class includes athletes Blair Morgan and Adam Ens, builder Larry Haylor, and Dr. R.J. (Reg) Martsinkew for meritorious service along with the 1983-84 Prince Albert Anavets Mosquito Baseball team, the 1988-1991 Carlton Boys High School Basketball team, and the 1995 Glen Pryor Senior Men’s Curling Rink.

The 32nd Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet is set for Saturday, April 27 in the Ches Leach Lounge at the Art Hauser Centre.
