Raiders halt Rebels win streak with another shootout victory

Jan 31, 2024 | 11:37 PM

The Prince Albert Raiders have grown well accustomed to shootouts on home ice so far in 2024.

Wednesday night was no exception, as the Raiders knocked off the Red Deer Rebels 4-3 in, you guessed it, a shootout.

Amazingly it was the fifth straight game that has gone to a shootout at the Art Hauser Centre dating back to Jan. 6. The Raiders have won four of those five games.

The Raiders led 3-1 after 40 minutes on Wednesday before the Rebels stormed back in the third period and tied the game at 3-3 in the final minute to force overtime.

After an uneventful 3-3 on overtime, Sloan Stanick would go on to score the shootout winner for P.A.

With the win the Raiders pick up a crucial two points in the standings and for the moment move into the eighth and final playoff spot in the WHL’s Eastern Conference.

With the loss, the Rebels 9-game win streak comes to an end, however Red Deer remains undefeated in regulation in their last 13 games.

The two teams will meet once more coming up in February. The Raiders are back in action on Friday night when they travel to Moose Jaw to wrap up their season series against the Warriors.
