Driest January on record for La Ronge
La Ronge experienced the driest January out of 59 years of record keeping.
That’s according to data from Environment and Climate Change Canada which shows La Ronge had 3.4 millimeters of precipitation last month compared to a normal rate of 18.7 mm. Prince Albert was also somewhat dry, coming in at the seventh driest, and Estevan was dry too with its fifth driest January.
“In terms of precipitation, there was some snow in January – the northern grain belt received some snow in the first half of January and the Far North benefitted from weather systems moving along the Northwest Territories border,” said meteorologist Terri Lang.
As for temperature, La Ronge had its 16th warmest January on record. The monthly mean temperature was -16.3C compared to a normal temperature of -18.8C. That’s a 2.5C departure from normal.
