While the next round of rotating strikes won’t affect its schools, the withdrawal of noon-hour supervision will affect students and parents.

After talks broke down between the provincial government and the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation (STF) earlier this week, the STF announced the withdrawal of noon-hour supervision province-wide on Friday.

In a letter following the announcement, the Northern Lights School Division said every one of its schools has a plan to ensure student’s safety.

“As a school division, we respect the collective bargaining process,” said Director of Education Jason Young in the letter. “Our number one priority is the safety of our students, and we are committed to keeping parents, caregivers and families informed of future job action and changes to school operations.”

The letter goes on to say that parents should contact their schools for information on their noon-hour plans.

One-day rotating strikes are set for schools in the Saskatchewan Rivers, Prince Albert Catholic, Living Sky and Light of Christ school divisions, and at Sakewew High School in North Battleford, École St Isidore De Bellevue in Prince Albert, École Valois in Prince Albert, École Père Mercure in North Battleford, and the Saskatchewan Distance Learning Corporation’s North Central Campus in Prince Albert.

As well, the union said demonstration sites will be set up across the street from Education Minister Jeremy Cockrill’s office in North Battleford and Premier Scott Moe’s office in Shellbrook from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday.
