Hawks win one of three on southern road trip; four points out of playoffs
The Hawks began a road trip down south Thursday in Wilcox suffering a 4-3 loss to the Hounds in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) action.
On Friday Nipawin was in Estevan to take on the Bruins for the fourth and final tine this season. Needing points to stay in the postseason hunt, the Hawks outpaced the Bruins by the score of 5-4. Moose Jaw born rookie forward Jacob Michleson’s third career SJHL goal was the game winner in the third period. He said the win was important for the club.
“It’s big for us, we have been working hard trying to play the right way and I think we did that tonight. Especially in the third period managing pucks and getting lots of shots on net like we have wanted to the last couple games,” he said.
Alex Bernauer, Chase Visser, and Liam McInnis all scored for the Hawks in the second period, Bernauer’s 11th goal was from the left corner, McInnis’ seventh goal of the year bounced off a glass partition and bounced into an open net due to Bruins’ goaltender Jackson Miller moving to play the dump in. Michleson said it was nice to get a couple breaks in the win.
