P.A. businesses donate over $11K to help Sask. burn victims

A Saskatchewan charity that supports burn victims is getting over $11,000 from two Prince Albert businesses.

The Saskatchewan Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Association (SPFFPA) received the donations on Friday from Phantom Light Distillery and Lake Country Co-op’s Wine, Spirits, Beer.

Lloyd Zwack, president of the SPFFPA, told paNOW that funding like this is what helps them continue offering support across the province.

“We can support burn survivors, we can support their families, we can (also) send medical staff away for additional specific training,” he said.

This specific funding will go towards purchasing equipment for the Regina General Hospital.

All of the money raised came from bottle sales during last March. Phantom Light Distillery donated $1 for every bottle sold except for the 1,750 ml bottles as they donated $2 for these. Lake Country Co-op’s Wine, Spirits, Beer donated $1 for every Phantom Light Distillery bottle sold in their locations across the province.

Drew Martin, the owner of Phantom Light Distillery, explained the cause hits deep for him as he’s a former firefighter. He said burn victims need all the support they can get.

“There’s no real outlet to get them into first-class treatment right away and that’s where the burn fund bridges the gap,” Martin said.

To help raise more funds, the distillery reached out to Lake Country Co-op to see if they would be interested in taking part.

“When you have an opportunity to partner with one of your local partners, it just makes sense,” said Ian Litzenberger, director of Wine, Spirits, Beer for Lake Country Co-op.

Meanwhile, Martin noted the distillery plans on holding another monthly fundraiser for the SPFFPA.
