Investigation ongoing in Loon Lake post office break in

The investigation continues following the break and enter of the Canada Post office in Loon Lake last week.

“It’s the second time in about two months,” said Brian Hirschfeld.

“They’d broken in a couple of months ago, but they didn’t get into the post office, this time they actually got in there and rummaged through a few things and left.”

According to Canada Post, the break in happened over night on Monday, March 11 and both the post office’s security and investigations are “aware of the incident.”

“They opened a couple of parcels, but we don’t know if they stole anything or not,” said Hirschfeld.

“We just got a letter in the mail from the post office stating that they were broken into.”

According to Saskatchewan RCMP, an unknown person or unknown people broke into the office and two small electronic office equipment had been taken but were later recovered by police.

Canada Post said the office was closed on Tuesday morning to clean-up but was reopened for the afternoon.

“A sign was posted informing customers of the closure, and customers who held a PO box also received a letter,” they said via an email statement.

“Customers who believe they have not received a piece of letter mail should contact the sender. If they believe a parcel delivery is missing, they should contact Canada Post’s Customer Service so that we can look into it and potentially work with the sender, who may initiate a claim with Canada Post,” the statement continued.

Meanwhile, anyone with information is asked to call Loon Lake RCMP at 306-837-2400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. Customers may also reach out to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or Canada Post’s Customer Service team online at canadapost.ca/support or phone 1-866-607-6301.
