Northern ice roads starting to close for 2024
Northern ice roads in Saskatchewan are starting to close for the year.
An emailed statement from the Ministry of Highways says while the ice road from Fond du Lac to Uranium City is closed for the season, the Stony Rapids to Fond du Lac and Wollaston Lake roads remain open.
The Stony Rapids to Fond du Lac road is open to a maximum weight of 22,292 kilograms, while the Wollaston Lake road is open to a maximum weight of 34,500 kg.
These roads connect northern communities to supplies and services in southern Saskatchewan. Ice roads usually open in mid-February and typically close for the season at the end of March or until weather allows.
