FIRE BAN

Fire ban in effect at Red Pheasant Cree Nation

Apr 10, 2024 | 6:20 AM

The Red Pheasant Cree Nation has instituted a fire ban, effectively immediately.

The First Nation announced the ban on Tuesday night.

The ban comes as the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency announced earlier this week that it’s already started training firefighters for the coming wildfire season.

Last year, the amount of land burned by wildfires in Saskatchewan was about 1.9 million hectares, roughly five times the size of Prince Albert National Park.

More than 500 fires burned last season, leading to poor air quality and prompting the evacuation of several northern and First Nation communities.
