The Nipawin Fire Department had a long day on Wednesday after a multi-vehicle collision began their day and a house fire ended it.

According to their Facebook page, just before 8 a.m., they were called out to 7th Avenue after two cars collided.

An SUV and a minivan crashed into one another, damaging the front ends of both.

Airbags were deployed, but no injuries were reported to the department.

Nearly 24 hours later, Nipawin Fire had to respond to a structure fire in the southeast part of town.

Just before 8 p.m., the fire department had to respond to a house which was engulfed in flames.

Injuries were deemed as minor, as the family was able to escape before the roof had been completely set on fire.

“Your volunteer firefighters performed flawlessly hooking up to a hydrant and getting hose lines deployed in minutes,” read the Facebook post from Nipawin Fire.

According to them, “had the response not been so quick, the neighbouring house certainly would’ve been next.”

Smoke detectors gave the family a heads-up to the fire, while a nearby resident also came knocking at the back door to provide another alert.

“As a testament to the ruggedness of these safety devices (smoke detectors), three were still sounding during the fire including the one pictured,” added the post.
