Music and classic automobile lovers will be in for a treat at this upcoming show coming to the Battlefords.

Guitars and Cars Show ‘n Shine will take place at the Dekker Centre Parking Lot on Sunday, June 9. It will include several live bands to add to the relaxing atmosphere of the event. The Beer League, the Battle River Bandits, and Stereo Playground will perform during the day. The event is free to attend and to register. The MC for the day will be Neil Georget.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to about 4 p.m. Awards will be handed out starting at 2 p.m.

People taking in the show can also visit the vendors’ tables and canteen during the day.

A 50-50 draw to benefit the Battlefords Humane Society is also planned.

“That is our cause that we support. They will be out there [too],” said Greg Korpach, president of the Battlefords Bent Rodz Car Club.

Some other highlights include a Mobile Dyno – a machine to tell people how much horsepower their car has.

There’s also the Tire Burnout Box.

“As a kid, we called it ‘Smoke Shows on Main Street,’ when you spin your tires and burn your tires,” Korpach said with a chuckle. “It’s a tire burnout. We built a special box for it, so it doesn’t damage the ground. We’ll have a little bit of a contest there, [to see] who puts on the best performance for the crowd.”

The car show itself starts at 10 a.m. Korpach estimates there will be over 250 classic and vintage cars on display in this year’s show.

Some of the beauties Korpach is looking forward to seeing include an old Cadillac Limousine from the 1920s.

“It has a bit of history around the Battlefords and Western Canada,” he said.

Korpach is also excited about viewing all the clubs’ cars.

“We have about four or five different car clubs coming from different areas in the provinces – [from] Saskatchewan and Alberta,” he noted.

Among the cars Korpach is interested in seeing are some 1960s Corvettes, a few “rat rods” – a hot rod with an unfinished appearance, some Cadillacs, and a variety of different classics and vintage automobiles.

“[There’ll be] a little bit of everything,” he said.

Korpach will be bringing his old Chevy truck and a Chevy Nova.

He has been fascinated with classic, vintage cars since he was about eight years old.

When Korpach finds a car or truck he’s always wanted, he will spend a lot of time afterwards, fixing it up to perfection.

“We work on it together as a club, or by ourselves,” he said. “Everybody tinkers.”

Korpach summed the event up saying the Show ‘n Shine will be worth taking in.

“There’s the show, the live music and food,” he said. “[It’ll be a] good day.”
