Man charged with attempted murder, granted bail with $3,000 deposit

Apr 19, 2024 | 12:00 PM

One of two people charged after a violent incident in Prince Albert has been released on bail with several conditions including a curfew, and an up-front cash deposit of $3,000.

Kye Rees appeared by video when his case was discussed Friday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

A formal bail hearing was not required as Rees’s release was granted with consent from the Crown.

On Nov. 19, 2023, Prince Albert Police were called to an area on 22nd Street East near the Cooke Municipal Golf Course for a single-vehicle collision.

Further investigation found that a second vehicle was involved and that occupants of that vehicle opened fire, injuring one person.

The man who was injured continues to recover.

Last week, Kye Rees was arrested in Moosomin and charged with attempted murder, firearms offences, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, and failing to remain at the scene of a collision.

His next scheduled court date is June 6.

Crown Prosecutor Doug Howell cited a “considerable” amount of disclosure and mentioned it may take a couple of weeks to provide to the defence.

Meanwhile, a 42-year-old woman has also been charged with obstruction of justice for her role in this investigation and is scheduled to appear in court on May 22.

As a result of the crash involving a vehicle hitting a power pole, five people were sent to hospital with various injuries. At the same time, the 22-year-old driver was later taken to Regina via STARS Air Ambulance with serious injuries.
