North Stars relish opportunity to host SJHL Hall of Fame

Just a year after hosting a special 50th Anniversary celebration, the Battlefords North Stars will again hold a special milestone event this summer, as hosts of the 2024 SJHL Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

Coupling the Induction Banquet with their annual Alumni Golf Tournament for a two-day weekend celebration June 21-22, the Alumni Golf tourney will be held at Jackfish Lodge on Friday, followed by the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday night at 6 p.m. at the Access Communications Centre.

The North Stars’ Class of 2024 will feature 12 inductees:

• Drew Bagnall
• Kelly McCrimmon
• Todd McLellan
• Wade Belak
• Tracy Cook
• Blair Atcheynum
• Blake Tatchell
• The Smith Family
• The George Family
• North West Hockey Development
• Battlefords North Stars 2016-2017 Team

North Stars’ team president, Kyle Kellgren said the organization is looking forward to hosting another premier event this year, combining the prestige of the Induction Ceremony with the easy-going nature of the Alumni Golf Tournament.

“We’re really honoured to be hosting the Hall of Fame this year, and to be able to tie it into a whole weekend,” Kellgren said. “Everyone can come out and do a little golfing, a little reminiscing, a little bit of chatting, and then go into the event on Saturday, so we’re very proud and excited to do that this June.”

From players who inspired the generations that followed, to the individuals, families, and organizations who have shaped the North Stars’ legacy into all that it is today, Kellgren said it was important to the team to feature inductees from all facets of the game, both on-ice and behind the scenes.

“We’ve had so many people that have had so many direct impacts with the SJHL and the North Stars, it was hard to narrow the list down, but we believe we touched on all aspects and we’re really proud of who we’re inducting,” he said. “It’s an amazing feat, and we’re really proud of the list we’ve put together.”

“We are who we are because of our alumni. We’ve got a great heritage steeped with tradition and each and every one of these inductees are a huge part of our success.”
