Council awards $10,000 in community grants

La Ronge council awarded $10,000 at a regular meeting last week through its Community Grants Policy.

The town received an application from Sum Theatre, based in Saskatoon, requesting financial support in the amount of $5,000 to host a Theatre in the Park event on June 18.

Sum Theatre has been holding the event in La Ronge for the last two years and, in 2024, they plan to perform two showings of their newest play.

Council decided to award Sum Theatre the entirely of their request of $5,000. They will host the play on that day at 1 p.m. for local students, then again at 7 p.m. for the public.

A second request from the La Ronge Arts Council was approved for $5,000 to support an Art in the Library program from May 2 to June 27.

The total funds remaining for community grants is $21,187. The town awards $42,000 in community grants yearly.
