It’s a good week to grab a cookie with a pink and blue smile and support some furry critters at the same time.

The Tim Hortons annual Smile Cookie campaign launched on Monday with the proceeds from restaurants in Prince Albert benefiting the local SPCA.

Manager of Operations Ashley Bober said they were over the moon excited when they first heard they were the beneficiaries of this year’s cookies.

“This is a huge thing for us, so we are super excited, you know, excited to be chosen as the charity of Choice and Super excited to get out there,” she said.

Bober added the SPCA has already been out and about with staff members holding signs and directing drivers to their nearest Tim’s.

The organization had some help decorating the cookies with staff from Park Range Veterinary Services, KIN Enterprises, and Gray’s Funeral Chapel joining in on the fun.

“Honestly, there isn’t really words that can justify how exciting it is to see how much support that we’ve had for this. So, it’s very exciting,” said Bober.

As for what the funds will be used for after the week is done, said it will go towards one of their biggest needs: animal care, noting that they’ve seen an increase in the number of dogs coming into their care.

“Adoptions have been more on the slower end so with dogs sticking around longer, the costs obviously increased,” said Bober. “It’s super important for us to have the funds to be able to give the dogs and then also the cats as well and any small animals that come in, all of the requirements that they need.”

Those will include items like proper bedding, dishes, special foods, and toys for the animals.

Bober said the SPCA will be busy throughout the week at all four Tim Hortons locations and encourages everyone to purchase a cookie with all proceeds going to the organization.

Last summer, the Smile Cookie campaign raised more than $34,000 for the Prince Albert YWCA while Hope’s Home benefited from the first-ever Holiday Smile Cookies in November.
