P.A. firefighters show off their best cooking skills and win big

Once again, Prince Albert can boast about having the best firefighting cooks in Saskatchewan.

Members of the local firefighting department participated in the Fire in the Kitchen Cookoff in Saskatoon and took home the top prize.

This was the fourth straight year the crew has won the cookoff with teams from Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Regina, and Medavie Ambulance participating.

So, what did the P.A. crew cook up to win the top prize this year?

“Our guys had pork belly as their entrée, it was a prime rib burger with onion rings for the main course and then the last was a special milkshake,” said firefighter Seth Barker.

Barker added that the team this year included those who have competed in the past with four new members joining the kitchen.

The cooking event was not only a friendly competition but also a major fundraiser for the Saskatchewan Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics Burn Fund which gives money to different initiatives, such as burn camp and for hospital equipment, and resources for trained doctors and nurses.

The fund also covers treatment, travel, and other needs associated with burn care.

Barker noted that what the P.A. firefighting team has done over the years for the burn fund has been exceptional.

“They’ve probably done more than any other local (firefighting union) in the province.”
