Her Honour Donna Mirasty, the viceregal consort to Saskatchewan Lt. Gov. Russell Mirasty, is a recipient of the King Charles III Coronation Medal.

The King Charles III Coronation Medal is a way to acknowledge significant contributions and achievements of citizens across the nation, while also honouring His Majesty’s service to Canada. The ceremony in Saskatchewan occurred May 6 in Regina.

“I was very pleased in getting it, especially after meeting him a year ago,” Mirasty said. “It was amazing going to Buckingham Palace to meet him.”

Mirasty grew up in Cumberland House and is a member of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band. She is a fluent Swampy Cree speaker and she enjoyed a successful career as a licensed practical nurse.

As the wife of Lt. Gov. Russell Mirasty, who had a 36-year career with the RCMP, she travelled alongside him as he was posted to several positions across the country.

“There were sometimes where it took a while to get all my paperwork done for my license with some of the provinces we went to across Canada, but I did work within the medical field in some way,” Mirasty said, noting they both worked while raising their two children.

As the viceregal consort, Mirasty supports her husband, who is The King’s representative in Saskatchewan. She has attended hundreds of events since he was appointed to the position in 2019. The couple currently call La Ronge their home.

Twenty-one prominent citizens were awarded medals at the first ceremony last week, including former premiers and lieutenant governors, environmental conservationists, police officers and members of the military. Mirasty said she was humbled to receive the medal in their company.

“The citations these people got, they have done so many amazing things and to be in their company was so humbling,” she said.

In recognition of The King’s Coronation, the Government of Canada established the King Charles III Coronation Medal program, which will run from May 6 to March 31, 2025. The Office of the Secretary to the Governor General will administer the distribution of 30,000 medals on behalf of the Government.
