The Prince Albert Aerials gymnastics club was well represented at provincials.

Over a dozen gymnasts made the trip to Saskatoon last weekend, and returned home with a number of medals. Among them was 11-year-old Lucia Tamayo who finished second in vault, second in uneven bars, and fourth overall for the CCP6 level.

Meanwhile 12-year-old Lily Ross won silver in vault and third overall for the X-gold level. Harlee Boyer, 11, finished third in vault, fourth in uneven bars, second for beam, and second for her floor routine. She was also third overall for the CCP6 level.

And 11-year-old Nicole Linfitt was second in uneven bars, second in beam, and third overall for the X-Gold level.

For coach Jai-Li Harvey, this event marked her second time as a coach at provincials.

“I was so proud of the girls. I think they did amazing and I always told them, getting there is the hardest part, once you’re there just go out there and do your best,” she said.

Harvey also numerous years experience as a competitive athlete, and knows full well the nerves that can come when it’s time to compete. She admitted she enjoys watching from the sidelines.

“It’s more of an enjoyable experience as a coach just because you’ve helped these girls get to where they need to be and you are proud of them,” she said.

Piper Fontaine also has numerous years experience as an athlete, and made her debut as a coach. Responsible for three athletes, she said their goal this year was just making it to provincials.

“They were just so excited and at their last meet, which determined whether they made it or not, they were so proud of themselves and I had happy tears for them,” she said.

Fontaine also noted how one of the girls, Lucia Tamayo, will get the opportunity to train with the Summit Team Sask program, which acts as a sort of training ground for future opportunities at Westerns.
