Ground ambulances unavailable as rains make roads impassable in Cumberland House

May 17, 2024 | 4:44 PM

Driving out of Cumberland House has become impossible as rains have made an already muddy road worse.

On May 17, the Village of Cumberland House and nearby Cumberland House Cree Nation issued a joint alert advising residents of the travel problems.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority has put in place emergency measures that include making sure a Primary Health Care nurse is available as needed at the clinic.

On May 3, Clara Cook shared this photo of three vehicles including a semi truck stuck on the highway.

EMS personnel will be stationed as normal and emergency air medevac services remain an option.

The Saskatchewan Highway Hotline shows at least multiple locations on Highway 123 where the gravel road has “extreme rutting, soft spots, blow outs,” and drivers are advised to travel with extreme caution in 4×4 only.

It also says that dozers are working the area north of the EB Campbell dam.
