Work starts on Second Ave near Marquis Road

Drivers in Prince Albert can still get through the intersection of Second Avenue and Marquis Road but it may be slow going as work crews start re-surfacing the street, one of the busiest in the city.

Work on re-doing one portion of Second Avenue started on May 27 and will continue until June 11 for the first phase.

That phase will reach as far as 32nd Street West.

The city plans to keep two-way traffic on the street, while milling and paving happen but businesses will not have direct access to Second while paving is happening.

Drivers going south on the street, which is also the main north to south highway going through town, will be restricted to one lane and some detours are in place.

On June 12, crews are scheduled to start the same work milling and re-paving on the stretch from 32nd Street to 28th Street West.

That is supposed to be done on June 26 as weather allows.

Drivers are also being warned that freshly oiled asphalt can damage their vehicles and degrade the quality of the new surface simultaneously.

The city is paying for 30 per cent of the cost of the work while the remainder is being paid for by the province.
