‘Software glitch’ blamed for early tax payment

May 28, 2024 | 4:33 PM

For some Prince Albert city residents, the tax man arrived almost a week ahead of schedule.

For those who subscribe to the automatic payment method, their June amount was withdrawn from their bank account on May 27. A spokesperson for City Hall confirmed for paNOW this was done in error and the reason for this was a software glitch that resulted in a withdrawal date error.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please be assured that the affected funds will be returned to the respective bank accounts overnight tonight,” Wilna Furstenberg said.

Any residents who have incurred NSF charges due to this error, are encouraged to collect the necessary documentation and submit it to the City’s Financial Services department.

“We will make sure that any additional charges incurred are refunded,” Furstenberg explained, adding documentation can be submitted by way of taxation@citypa.com.

City residents who reached out to paNOW said while they were a bit surprised to see the money missing from their accounts, they added fortunately they were not left in a tight spot.
