Two men face charges after a firearm incident on the James Smith Cree Nation (JSCN).

Melfort RCMP were called about a man with a firearm on JSCN Tuesday afternoon.

An RCMP officer already at James Smith responded and confirmed there were no injuries associated with the incident.

RCMP located the man but he tried to run and became combative when the officer approached him. The suspect was eventually arrested after the officer used a conducted energy device.

A firearm was found and seized at a nearby residence and a second man was also arrested shortly after.

28-year-old Philip Head of Kinistino is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.

Meanwhile, 26-year-old Reno Sanderson of James Smith Cree Nation is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, two counts of failing to comply with a release order condition, and four counts of weapons possession contrary to order.

Head will appear in Melfort Provincial Court on June 3, while Sanderson will be in court on June 17.
