Superstore stabbing incident results in 18-month jail sentence

A man responsible for stabbing a Good Samaritan in Prince Albert’s Superstore parking lot, has received a 12-month-jail sentence and 18 months probation.

Eagleclaw Sanderson’s matters were resolved at provincial court on April 30.

In relation to the events that occurred in March, 2022, Sanderson entered a guilty plea to assault causing bodily harm.

The case had initially been scheduled for a two-day trial starting May 21, and has been delayed on multiple occasions due to Sanderson failing to show up for scheduled court appearances.

The incident in question was initiated when a bystander stepped in to defend two strangers that were being bullied.

As many as three people then came after the bystander, and during the ensuing confrontation, the bystander was stabbed near the heart. He however was able to knock out two of the aggressors including Sanderson who was taken to hospital.

Fortunately the stab wound was not life threatening.

Following completion of his jail sentence, Sanderson, who had no prior criminal record, will be prohibited for life from owning or possessing any firearms or explosives.
