Free show to exhibit classic, special interest cars

Saskatchewan’s Most Northern Car Show will go ahead rain or shine.

That’s according to organizer Shaune Lapworth, who is hosting the event alongside Woodlands and Waterways, as well as the Town of La Ronge. While he was unsure exactly how many cars will be on display, he explained there are between 18 and 20 that are local to the area.

“It will be a mix from anything up to some later model Mustangs and such,” Lapworth said.

“Ideally, we take classic, special interest, unique, vintage. Nobody wants to look at 2020 Dodge Durango unless it has some performance enhancers or fancy paint or something. These are unique or antique.”

Aside from the Saskatchewan British Car Show, which came to La Ronge in July 2023, this is the second show of its kind in recent years. Lapworth noted about 15 to 18 years ago, there were several consecutive shows in La Ronge’s Patterson Park.

The event will be free of charge for spectators and participants.

“Set to Flames is going to play two sets,” he added.

“We are excited about that. They have been practicing and they are keen to play some music again. There will be hoop dancing between the two sets of Set to Flames and there will also be one or two food trucks and I know there’s a kokum (grandmother) bringing some bannock down.”

The event will be held at La Ronge’s Mel Hegland Uniplex between noon and 3 p.m.
