Nipawin ends 2023 with $100k surplus

The Town of Nipawin has released their 2023 Audited Financial Statements.

The document was revealed at this week’s council meeting, and it shows the town had a $100,000 surplus in 2023.

“It shows that…our staff were really good stewards of the public funds,” Chief Administrative Officer Michele Sorensen told northeastNOW. “We managed to get a lot of projects done with the funds that we had and stayed within budget.”

The surplus will stay in general funding. Sorensen said some funds that were unexpended from last year were transferred to reserves.

“For projects, mostly capital projects, that weren’t completed in 2023 that were budgeted in 2023, we did allocate those funds to reserve for use in 2024.”

Council also heard a quick summary about the town’s economic strategy initiative.

“Staff, administration, and council have to unpack the report and analyze it and come up with some strategic direction,” said Sorensen.

She added the consultant, Wallace Insights, provided recommendations on directions the town should look towards for the future, and various initiatives the town should develop.

“A strategy for growth and development,” explained Sorensen.

She said the document was just received from the consultant and presented to council as an initial introduction.
