A local artist and a fashion designer are finding success with a unique collaboration.

Annalisa Heppner and Wyatt Miller have come together to create a line of hoodies that combine her artwork and his exclusive clothing designs. The collaboration, which consists of Heppner’s artwork stylized under Miller’s Sparked Apparel line, began shortly after she approached him following the Art in the Park event about working together.

“The idea was to take her artwork and bring it to life and kind of do it for the Napatak Ramble, but now that I have started making the hoodies, there has been a lot of traction on them and a lot of people have been interested,” Miller said.

“We actually sold a couple already, so we are thinking about maybe holding a custom order for them in the future. Maybe in a couple months, get 15 to 30 orders going so that a lot more people can get their hands on them.”

Miller has already finished four out of seven hoodies in a process he has been documenting on his Facebook page. He hopes to have the remaining three hoodies finished by the end of the Canada Day weekend.

Miller has worked with companies and organizations in the past by adding logos on to shirts, but he noted this project has been different.

“With these pieces, it’s fully original and pretty much the full hoodie with the artwork on it, so it’s the first time I’m doing something of this nature with an artist,” he said.

“I’m loving the quality and the thing I really do like about using these woven blankets is they are the same thickness as the hoodies. You’re not really getting too much of a different feel with them. As well, the blankets came out really vibrant and all of the colours are popping a lot, so that’s a good thing also.”

Heppner has been impressed by what Miller has been able to achieve with her artwork. She was interested in working with Miller because she didn’t want her art simply printed on to a shirt.

“I think they turned out great. I am so impressed with his work. I definitely would love to continue working with him in the future on stuff like this,” Heppner said.

“It’s something a little different, and I am a big supporter of collaborating and working with local artists and I just felt it was a natural fit for me.”
