Several local communities are benefitting from infrastructure funding from the federal and provincial governments.

The Investing in Canada Infrastructure Plan will support the local projects.

The Town of Birch Hills will receive over $1 million in combined provincial and federal funding for their lagoon expansion project, with the town funding just over $370,000. The federal and provincial government news release said the project includes the expansion of the current secondary storage cell with an additional secondary cell, new control structures, and twinning of the current effluent pipe.

Carrot River is receiving funding from the federal government for upgrades to the HVAC system at the Carrot River Health Centre.

Over $2.2 million in federal and provincial funding will go to the sewer system rehabilitation in Creighton, with the town chipping in just over $800,000. The rehab will include spot repairs, sewer re-lining, and other associated repairs.

Cumberland House’s runway will be repaired, thanks to over $3.2 million in funding split evenly between the provincial and federal governments. The runway, taxiway and apron will receive a double-seal surface treatment. New LED lights are also included in the upgrade.

Construction of a storm water retention pond in Humboldt will be partially funded by the two stages of government to nearly $1.2 million. The city will contribute just over $430,000 for the building of a recessed storm water detention pond, the installation of about 570m of pipe, landscaping, and other road repairs.

The Rural Municipality (RM) of Invergordon will contribute nearly $530,000 for an upgrade to the existing waterworks infrastructure in Yellow Creek, including the addition of a new water treatment processing system. The feds will contribute almost $800,000, and the province over $660,000.

“The federal government is investing in projects that improve the connectivity, resiliency, and health of Saskatchewan communities,” Federal Minister of Northern Affairs, PrairiesCan and CanNor Dan Vandal said in a news release, on behalf of Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Sean Fraser.

“Improving infrastructure is critical to growing Saskatchewan cities, villages and towns,” Corrections, Policing and Public Safety Minister Paul Merriman said on behalf of Government Relations Minister Don McMorris in the same news release. “Our government is committed to improving our communities through investment and partnerships. Projects like the ones announced today are crucial to building and protecting a growing Saskatchewan. These important projects will benefit residents both today and into the future.”

Forty-four infrastructure projects across the province are receiving funding. The federal government is investing $170,297,414 through the Public Transit Infrastructure Stream, Green Infrastructure Stream, Rural and Northern Communities Infrastructure Stream, and COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), and the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund. The Government of Saskatchewan is investing $140,672,351 and the recipients are contributing $60,535,692.
