Pilot in serious condition following downed plane just outside Melfort

A pilot whose plane went down this morning in the RM of Flett Springs in in serious condition in the hospital.

Emergency services were sent from Melfort to the crash location around 6:30 this morning and a STARS air ambulance was dispatched to the scene.

The plane was spraying crops.

The pilot, who was the lone occupant of the plane, was taken to hospital with injuries “described as serious in nature.”

According to Melfort Fire and Rescue’s Facebook page, the plane went down in a farmer’s field with STARS being able to land right at the site.

The pilot was first tended to by Melfort EMS and then loaded into the STARS helicopter for transport.
