The Village of Laird will pay $150,000 in fines after a worker was seriously injured after being ejected from the seat of lawn mower and became pinned underneath it.

The incident happened on July 19, 2022. In Rosthern Provincial Court last week, the Village pleaded guilty to two violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. It admitted that the worker was not properly supervised and that the equipment had not been repaired as it should have been.

The court imposed a fine of $53,571.43 with a surcharge of $21,428.57 for each violation, for a total amount of $150,000.

Two other charges were withdrawn.
