North Battleford golfers dominated 2024 Coca-Cola Lobstick

Two young golfers from North Battleford dominated the Lobstick, Leaving 143 Players in their wake.

Shae Maunula and Finn Silver from North Battleford recently won the 2024 Coca-Cola Junior Male’s Lobstick. Maunula is the Tournament low-score qualifier and Championship Flight Consolation Final winner, while Silver is the first flight consolation winner.

Maunula mentioned that it took him years of practice to strengthen his skills, and he is happy that his hard work has paid off in this competition.

He started playing golf at age 4, which has become his lifelong interest.

“I struggled the first day but powered through and did what I could,” Maunula said.

He explained that he was initially tied for the low qualifier and went into a playoff; however, he managed to win in the playoff round. “I was really, really happy about that awesome moment, and it helped me gain more confidence going into the week,” he said.

“I’d like to thank my parents for all the time and effort they put into me,”

Maunula expressed his gratitude to his coach, Clinton Schmaltz, for guiding him throughout the journey and for his dedication to developing him as a golfer.

“He has phenomenal talent and is well ahead of his years,” said Schmaltz.

“He has the potential to be one of the province’s great junior players in the last 25 years if he keeps going in the way he’s going.“

Clinton Schmaltz is a well-known Professional Golfers’ Association(PGA) of Canada professional and the head golf professional at Stewart Creek Golf Club in the Alberta Zone.

Schmaltz mentioned that Maunula is not the only good golfer in the family; his sister is also blessed with the talent.

“It must be something in the water in North Battleford.”

The 2024 Coca-Cola Junior Male’s Lobstick lasted three days, from Aug.12 to Aug.15, and took place at Waskesiu Golf Course at Prince Albert National Park.
