Nipawin community connections meeting more than registration night

Aug 27, 2024 | 11:05 AM

This year’s registration night in Nipawin has a different look.

The town will host a community connections evening at the Evergreen Centre Sept. 12, starting at 5 p.m.

General Manager of Leisure Services Chelsea Corrigan told northeastNOW the town decided to change things up for one major reason.

“Since the pandemic, most service groups have changed over to online registration, and we have noticed a significant decline of attendance at our registration night,” Corrigan said. “We felt this was a perfect opportunity to switch gears and offer more than just the registration night.”

Corrigan said the event will have many different aspects, including a chance to have coffee with council members and hear from town administration on the latest updates.

“The Community Connections night will be an opportunity to come and check out all that is available in Nipawin,” Corrigan explained.

That includes more information on the upcoming municipal election, with an opportunity for people on the fence about running in the election to ask councillors what being on council entails. Residents can also provide feedback on what they would like to see in Nipawin.

“We will also have consultants from Wallace Insights here to speak with members of the community about the official community plan and what they see as the future for Nipawin,” Corrigan explained.

Residents can register for sports, culture, or recreation groups at the event, and the event will also feature children’s activities.

Melfort will host its city-wide registration night at the Kerry Vickar Centre Sept. 5.
