A fatal crash involving a pedestrian who was struck by a police vehicle, is now the subject of an investigation by the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT).

The collision happened early Thursday morning. RCMP received a call for service in Buffalo Narrows. On-duty officers began travelling there from a prior call for service in Turnor Lake.

One of the responding officers was travelling in a police vehicle on the 909 grid road and that’s where the pedestrian was struck.

The incident occurred in a rural area, several kilometres from the Highway #155/grid road junction.

According to information provided by RCMP, the officer, who was not physically injured, immediately called for an ambulance and provided first aid to the pedestrian until EMS arrived.

The pedestrian was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. He has since been identified as a 31-year-old man from Clearwater River Dene Nation.

As required by The Police Act, 1990, Saskatchewan RCMP notified the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT). SIRT will investigate the circumstances of the collision and the pedestrian’s death.
